Maintaining Your Sanity:
Handling Problem Performers

Who should attend:

Any member of management who deals with employee performance issues

Program overview:

Recognizing that organizations need to take full advantage of the skills and abilities of their people, this powerful program shows how to get employees to stop what they should not be doing and start what they should be doing.  In this economic climate, companies simply cannot afford to carry the burden of those who are not willing or able to pull their own weight.

Managers will learn specific coaching procedures to use which will help them maintain their own sanity and, in most cases, obtain immediate positive results in eliminating employee performance problems.  The program will help attendees conduct more effective face-to-face coaching and counseling.
The workshop stresses the fact that managers need to do everything they can to help their employees succeed.  They are only successful when their employees are successful.  Therefore, performance problems must be addressed and promptly resolved.  There are times when informal discussions do not work and disciplinary action, including documenting conversations, is necessary.  Although this is a last resort, it is imperative that members of management know how to skillfully handle these situations.  Topics covered include:

  • The risk of not confronting performance problems
  • Turning win/lose into win/win
  • The coaching checklist
  • Coaching pitfalls to avoid
  • Guidelines for conducting a successful coaching session
  • The difference between discipline and punishment
  • The four key questions
  • Giving effective feedback
  • Correcting problems before they become unmanageable
  • Preventing employee problems from developing
